How to summon Valefor

Understanding Valefor

Valefor (also spelled Valefar or Valafar) is the 6th spirit described in the Ars Goetia, the first section of the 17th-century grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon. He is depicted as a lion-headed figure riding a crooked staff, often with a loud voice. According to the text, Valefor tempts people to steal and can provide familiar spirits that appear as black crows, but he is said to eventually lead followers into theft and ruin. He commands 10 legions of demons and is associated with the planet Venus. These descriptions are symbolic and part of Western occult tradition, not literal biology or history.

Summoning rituals from grimoires like this are historical and cultural artifacts, often involving prayer, sigils, and invocations. They are not scientifically verifiable and are approached as esoteric practices. Below is a step-by-step guide based directly on the Ars Goetia (translated by S.L. MacGregor Mathers in 1904), adapted for clarity. This is for informational purposes only—perform at your own risk, as these texts warn of spiritual and psychological dangers.

Preparation

Purification and Timing

Fast for at least 9 days beforehand. Perform the ritual during the hour of Venus (calculate based on your location; typically Fridays at dawn or dusk). Bathe in holy water (saltwater or blessed) and wear clean white linen robes. Abstain from meat, alcohol, and sexual activity during preparation.

Materials Needed

  • A magic circle drawn on the ground (9 feet in diameter) using chalk or flour, divided into quadrants with Hebrew names of God (e.g., Adonai, El, Elohim) inscribed around it.
  • A triangle of art outside the circle (4 feet on each side) for the spirit to appear in.
  • Incense: Frankincense and myrrh.
  • A black-handled knife or wand for tracing sigils.
  • Valefor’s sigil (a specific geometric seal; draw it accurately from the grimoire—it’s a complex interlaced design resembling a lion’s face in abstract lines).
  • Parchment with the spirit’s name and sigil, burned as an offering if needed.
  • Protective talismans: Psalm 91 inscribed on virgin parchment.

Location

A secluded room or outdoor space at night, facing east. Ensure no interruptions.

The Ritual

Follow these steps precisely, speaking all invocations aloud with confidence and authority. The Ars Goetia emphasizes commanding, not pleading.

Consecrate the Space

  • Enter the circle clockwise, knife in hand.
  • Trace the circle and triangle while reciting the Preliminary Invocation (from the Lesser Key): “O Thou, the Great and Mighty God, who art the Lord of all Spirits, I, [Your Name], a servant of the Most High, do humbly beseech Thee to grant me Thy protection and power in this work. By the names Adonai, El, Elohim, Elohi, Ehieh, Asher Ehieh, Zabaoth, Elion, Iah, Tetragrammaton, Shaddai, Lord God Most High, I invoke Thee.”

Invoke the Spirit

  • Light the incense in the triangle.
  • Hold the sigil aloft and recite the specific conjuration for Valefor three times: “I do invocate and conjure thee, O Spirit Valefor; and being with power armed from the Supreme Majesty, I do strongly command thee, by Beralanensis, Baldachiensis, Paumachia, and Apologiae Sedes; by the most Powerful Princes, Genii, Liachidae, and Ministers of the Tartarean Abode; and by the Chief Prince of the Seat of Apologia in the Ninth Legion, I do invoke thee, and by invocating conjure thee. And being armed with power from the Supreme Majesty, I do strongly command thee, by Him Who spake and it was done, and unto whom all creatures be obedient. Also I, being made after the image of God, endued with power from God and created according unto His will, do exorcise thee by that most mighty and powerful name of God, El, strong and wonderful; O thou Spirit Valefor! And I command thee and Him who spake the Word and His Fiat was accomplished, and by all the names of God. Also by the names Adonai, El, Elohim, Elohi, Ehieh, Asher Ehieh, Zabaoth, Elion, Iah, Tetragrammaton, Shaddai, Lord God Most High, I do exorcise thee and do powerfully command thee, O thou Spirit Valefor, that thou dost forthwith appear unto me here before this Circle in a fair human shape, without any deformity or tortuosity. And by this ineffable name, Tetragrammaton Iehovah, do I command thee, at the which being heard the elements are overthrown, the air is shaken, the sea runneth back, the fire is quenched, the earth trembleth, and all the hosts of the celestials, terrestrials, and infernals do tremble together, and are troubled and confounded. Wherefore come thou, O Spirit Valefor, forthwith, and without delay, from any or all parts of the world wherever thou mayest be, and make rational answers unto all things that I shall demand of thee. Come thou peaceably, visibly, and affably, now, and without delay, manifesting that which I shall desire. For thou art conjured by the name of the Living and True God, Helioren, wherefore fulfil thou my commands, and persist thou therein unto the end, and according unto mine interest, visibly and affably speaking unto me with a voice clear and intelligible without any ambiguity.”

Appearance and Binding

Valefor may appear as a lion with a man’s head or a grotesque figure.
If he does not appear after the third recitation, repeat a stronger constraint (e.g., invoking divine names like “Primeumaton, Anexhexeton, Tetragrammaton”).

Once visible in the triangle, bind him with:

“O thou Spirit Valefor, because thou hast not obeyed nor regarded my commands, I do recurese thee to the depths of the Bottomless Pit, there to remain until the Day of Doom.”

Communication

Ask your questions clearly (e.g., for a familiar spirit or knowledge). He will answer truthfully if properly bound.
Do not step out of the circle or show fear.

Dismissal

Thank him and license to depart:

“O thou Spirit Valefor, I thank thee for thy obedience. I license thee to depart unto thy proper place, without harm to man or beast. Go in peace, by the power of Adonai and Tetragrammaton.”

Extinguish incense and erase the circle counterclockwise.

Warnings from the Text

Deceptive Nature

Valefor is “a good familiar but will carry away a great deal of money out of the house,” implying deception.

Risks

Mishandling can lead to obsession, theft, or madness—the grimoire stresses purity and divine protection.
