Who is Vual?
Vual (also spelled Vuall, Voval, or Uvall) is the 62nd spirit described in the Ars Goetia, the first section of the 17th-century grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon (Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis). He is depicted as a mighty and strong duke of Hell, commanding 37 legions of spirits.
Vual appears as a huge dromedary (camel-like creature) with a serpent’s tail, wings like a griffon, and fiery eyes. His voice is hoarse but pleasant, and he speaks Egyptian, though he can communicate in any language. Once conjured, he often shifts to a more human form.
Vual’s Powers Include:
- Providing knowledge of hidden treasures and secrets.
- Revealing past, present, and future events.
- Fostering friendship between enemies (or lovers).
- Answering any question truthfully.
- Inspiring love or passion in others.
He is considered a relatively cooperative demon, less prone to deception than some peers, but always requires proper ritual handling to avoid backlash.
Preparation for Summoning
Summoning rituals from grimoires like the Ars Goetia are rooted in medieval occult traditions and demand precision. Failure to follow them can lead to psychological distress, obsession, or unintended consequences—treat this as folklore, not a guarantee.
Purification and Timing
- Fast for 24 hours beforehand.
- Bathe in holy water (saltwater or blessed) and wear clean white linen robes.
- Perform the ritual during a waxing moon, ideally on a Tuesday (Mars’ day, aligning with Vual’s martial associations).
- Start at midnight.
Tools and Circle
- Magic Circle: Draw a double circle on the ground (9 feet diameter) using chalk or flour. Inscribe protective names of God (e.g., Tetragrammaton, Adonai) around it. Place yourself inside; the demon appears outside.
- Triangle of Art: Outside the circle, draw a triangle with Hebrew letters or sigils for containment.
- Incense: Burn myrrh, frankincense, or camel hair (symbolic of Vual’s form).
- Wand/Sword: A hazel wood wand or black-handled knife for commanding.
- Sigil of Vual: Essential—draw it on virgin parchment with red ink.
(Description: A complex seal resembling intertwined serpents and stars; reference the Ars Goetia for exact form.)
Mental State
- Meditate on your intent (e.g., “Reveal the location of lost treasure”).
- Banish doubts or fear.
- Invoke archangels (Michael, Gabriel) for protection.
The Summoning Ritual (Step-by-Step)
This is a condensed adaptation from the Ars Goetia and related Solomonic texts. Recite in a firm voice; use Latin if possible for authenticity, but English works.
Opening Invocation
- Face east in the circle. Light candles at the cardinal points.
- Recite the Preliminary Invocation (from the Lesser Key): “O Thou, the great and mighty God, who art the Lord of all spirits, I, [your name], a sinner, do humbly beseech Thee to send unto me Vual, the Duke of the infernal legions, that he may appear before this circle in a fair and comely shape, without harm to me or any creature.”
Call the Spirit
- Burn the sigil in the triangle while chanting Vual’s enn (demonic calling phrase): “Lirach Tasa Vefa Wehlc Vual.”
- Repeat 3–7 times, visualizing a camel-winged form materializing.
Conjuration
If no appearance, recite the full conjuration:
“I do invocate and conjure thee, O Spirit Vual; and being with power armed from the Supreme Majesty, I do strongly command thee, by Beralanensis, Baldachiensis, Paumachia, and Apologiae Sedes; by the most Powerful Princes, Genii, Liachidae, and Ministers of the Tartarean Abode; and by the Chief Prince of the Seat of Apologia in the Ninth Legion, I do invoke thee, and by invocating conjure thee. And being armed with power from the Supreme Majesty, I do strongly command thee, by Him Who spake and it was done, and unto whom all creatures be obedient… Appear thou now, Vual, before this circle in a fair human shape, without deformity or horror. Come thou peaceably, visibly, and affably, now and without delay, manifesting that which I shall desire. For thou art conjured by the Name of the Living and True God, Helioren, wherefore fulfill thou my commands, and persist thou therein unto the end.”
Communication
- Once visible (often as a shadowy or auditory presence), state your request clearly: “Vual, Duke of the East, I command thee to [specific desire, e.g., ‘unite me with [name] in love’].”
- He may speak directly or through signs.
- Offer a pact if needed (e.g., “In exchange for your service, I offer [libation of wine or blood—symbolic only]”).
License to Depart
When done:
“I thank thee, Vual, for thy obedience. Depart in peace, and harm none on thy way. By the power of the Most High, go forth!”
- Extinguish candles counterclockwise.
- Erase the circle at dawn.
Warnings and Aftercare
Risks
These rituals can induce hallucinations or attract obsessive thoughts.
If Vual resists, do not persist—banish with:
“Begone, Vual, by the power of [divine name]!”
Ethics
Grimoires emphasize consent and non-harm; misuse for malice rebounds.
