Ose (also known as Oso or Osé) is the 57th spirit described in the Ars Goetia, the first section of the 17th-century grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon. He is depicted as a leopard that, at the summoner’s command, transforms into a man. Ose is said to grant powers such as teaching liberal sciences (like logic, philosophy, and arts), granting true knowledge, and enabling invisibility. He commands 30 legions of spirits and is considered a President in the infernal hierarchy. These attributes come from traditional demonological texts, but summoning is presented as a ritualistic exercise, not literal fact.
Traditional Method to Summon Ose
Summoning rituals from the Ars Goetia follow a structured, ceremonial process rooted in Solomonic magic. This is not advice for practice—it’s a historical and cultural description. The ritual requires preparation, tools, and invocations. Below is a step-by-step outline based on the grimoire’s instructions.
Preparation

Timing and Location: Perform during the hour of Ose (traditionally the 10th hour of the day or night, depending on planetary hours—Mercury or Venus days are ideal). Choose a secluded, purified space, ideally a triangle of art drawn on the ground with chalk or blood (symbolic, not literal harm).
Tools Needed:

A magic circle (9 feet in diameter) inscribed with divine names (e.g., Tetragrammaton, Adonai).
A triangle outside the circle for the spirit to appear.
Incense: Sandalwood or frankincense.
Robes: White linen for purity.
A black mirror or scrying crystal for evocation.
The seal of Ose (a sigil resembling a leopard’s head with astrological symbols; draw it on virgin parchment with ink mixed with your blood or dragon’s blood resin).



The Ritual


Purification and Protection: Bathe in holy water (saltwater or herbal infusion). Fast for 24 hours prior. Recite Psalms 8, 18, or 91 for protection against harm.


Enter the Circle: Face east, light candles at the quarters (white for east, red for south, etc.). Burn incense and anoint the seal with oil.


Invocation: Recite the Preliminary Invocation from the Lesser Key (a call to the divine powers), then the specific call to Ose:

“I do invocate and conjure thee, O Spirit Ose; and being with power armed from the Supreme Majesty, I do strongly command thee, by Beralanensis, Baldachiensis, Paumachia, and Apologiae Sedes; by the most Powerful Princes, Genii, Liachidae, and Ministers of the Tartarean Abode; and by the Chief Prince of the Seat of Apologia in the Ninth Legion, I do invoke thee, and by invocating conjure thee. And being armed with power from the Supreme Majesty, I do strongly command thee, by Him Who spake and it was done, and unto whom all creatures be obedient… Appear thou now before this Circle in a fair human shape, without any deformity or tortuosity. Come thou in and from any part of the world wherever thou mayest be, and make rational answers unto all things I shall demand of thee. Come thou peaceably, visibly, and affably, now, and without delay, manifesting that which I shall desire. For thou art conjured by the Name of the Living and True God, Helioren, wherefore fulfil thou my commands, and persist thou therein unto the end, and according to mine interest, visibly and affably speaking unto me with a voice clear and intelligible without any ambiguity.”

Repeat three times, vibrating the name “OSE” (pronounced “OH-say”).


Appearance and Binding: Ose will manifest in the triangle as a leopard or man. Use the seal to bind him—hold it aloft and command obedience. Ask questions or request boons (e.g., “Teach me the arts of invisibility”).


Dismissal: Thank the spirit, then banish with: “O thou Spirit Ose, because thou hast diligently answered unto my demands, and hast been very ready and willing to come at my call, I do here license thee to depart unto thy proper place; without causing harm or danger unto man or beast. Depart, then, I say, and be thou very ready to come at my call, being conjured by the Name of the Eternal. Amen.”


Closing: Extinguish candles counterclockwise, dismantle the circle, and bury or burn the seal.


Variations in Sources

In some editions of the Lesser Key, Ose is linked to the planet Mercury, so incorporate mercury-related symbols (e.g., a wand tipped with quicksilver).
Modern occult adaptations (e.g., in chaos magic) simplify this to meditation on the sigil with visualization, omitting tools for safety.
