Who Is Guison?
Guison, also called Gusion, Gusoin, or Gusoyn, is the eleventh spirit in the Ars Goetia.
The Ars Goetia forms the first section of the seventeenth-century grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon (also named Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis).
This grimoire compiles seventy-two spirits bound by King Solomon for magical purposes.
Guison holds the rank of Duke and commands forty legions of spirits.
He appears as a baboon, a dog-headed man, or a foreign-looking monstrous figure.
Attributes and Powers
Guison is invoked to reveal truths about the past, present, and future.
He answers questions directly and exposes hidden knowledge.
He reconciles enemies or estranged people.
He also grants honor, dignity, and social elevation.
Therefore, seekers consult him for mediation, truth, and intellectual clarity.
Unlike more hostile spirits, Guison acts as a fair judge.
He delivers blunt yet healing insights that restore balance.
He aligns with Mercury, the element of Air, and the zodiac sign Gemini.
These associations highlight intellect, communication, and adaptability.
Preparation for Summoning Guison
Purification and Fasting
Abstain from meat, sex, and distractions for nine days.
Bathe ritually and wear clean white linen robes.
This preparation symbolizes purity and respect for divine order.
Timing and Location
Perform during a waxing moon for growth and revelation.
Choose Wednesday, Mercury’s day, or the hour of Mercury.
Avoid Sundays and full moons since they disturb infernal balance.
Select a secluded and quiet location at night, facing east.
Tools and Altar
- Protective Circle: Draw a nine-foot circle with divine names such as Adonai and Elohim.
- Triangle of Art: Place it four feet outside the circle for manifestation.
- Sigil of Guison: Inscribe his seal on virgin parchment or metal.
Anoint it with mercury-scented oil or cinnamon for intellect. - Incense: Burn frankincense, myrrh, or mastic for Mercury’s energy.
- Wand and Sword: Use a hazel wand for command and a black-handled knife for defense.
- Offerings: Prepare wine, bread, or tobacco to present afterward.
- Grimoire: Keep The Lesser Key of Solomon open for reference.
Mindset
Approach with respect and honest intent.
Never deceive the spirit since Guison values truth and loyalty.
State your purpose clearly before beginning.
Step-by-Step Ritual
Entering the Circle
At the chosen hour, step into the circle and light candles at each quarter.
Burn incense and pray for protection:
“O Lord, who hast created all things, guard me in this operation.
By Adonai, Elohim, and the Holy Angels, bind all harm from me.”
Consecrating the Triangle
Point the wand at the triangle and declare:
“I open this Triangle by the power of the Most High,
that Guison may appear here without harm.”
Invoking Guison
Hold the sigil high and vibrate his name eleven times.
Then recite the adapted conjuration:
“Theele, thou Spirit Guison, Great Duke of the East,
I invoke thee by Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel.
Appear now in a fair form without terror or deformity.
Reveal the truths I seek—past, present, and future.
Reconcile what is broken and grant honor to the worthy.
By the Seal of Solomon, obey my call, Guison!”
Repeat this invocation up to three times.
Burn copal incense between each repetition to strengthen focus.
Manifestation and Communication
Guison may appear as a shadow, a voice, or an inner vision.
If visible, he remains within the triangle.
Ask direct questions and record all responses carefully.
Offer wine or bread in gratitude for his presence.
Dismissal
Conclude respectfully:
“O Guison, I thank thee for thy wisdom.
Depart in peace to thy abode, harming none.
By the Divine Names, go forth!”
Extinguish candles counter-clockwise and cleanse the circle with salt water.
Finally, bury the offerings outdoors to close the work.
Variations and Modern Adaptations
Simplified Modern Rite
Modern practitioners often simplify the process.
They meditate on Guison’s sigil during Mercury’s hour.
They offer coffee or books instead of ritual tools.
Visualize a blue flame representing the Air element.
Chant the enn: “Linan Tasa Jedan Tasa Guison.”
Psychological Approach
Others interpret Guison symbolically as inner truth.
They use trance or journaling to reveal unconscious insights.
This method encourages reconciliation between opposing thoughts.
Warnings from Classical Sources
Never exit the circle until formal dismissal.
Disruption can invite confusion or oppressive sensations.
If anxiety arises, perform the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.
Trace the pentagram and vibrate the sacred word “ARARITA.”
Associations and Symbolism
Guison’s nature combines intellect, diplomacy, and courage.
His element Air connects to logic and conversation.
Mercury strengthens his link to language and analytical thought.
Because of these qualities, Guison governs truth and reconciliation.
