Beelzebub stands where worship has soured into mockery and authority has become infestation. His name moves from the shrine of Ekron into the Gospel exorcism controversies, where he is no longer merely a foreign divine power but the ruler beneath whose shadow the demonic host is accused of acting.
This record follows the presence through the traditions that preserved its name. Ancient sources, later commentaries and occult interpretations do not always reveal an identical form, yet the same current remains visible beneath their differences: a power recognized by what changes when it draws near.
Name and Identity
The forms Beelzebub and Beelzebul preserve a history of polemic and transformation. A title once connected with a local Baal became a name of derision and then hardened into the identity of a great adversarial prince.
The name also survives as Beelzebul, Baal-zebub, Lord of the Flies, Prince of Demons. These forms belong to the same entry unless a separate historical identity can be demonstrated.
The Oldest Record
Second Kings records consultation with Baal-zebub of Ekron. Centuries later, opponents of Jesus claim that demons are expelled by Beelzebul, ruler of demons, placing the name at the summit of a hostile hierarchy.

The oldest warnings treat contact as consequential. The danger does not end when the apparition withdraws; it may remain as altered desire, damaged judgment, recurring dreams or a relationship that has begun to serve the presence.
Transformation Through History
A foreign divine title became a prince of demons and then one of the great rulers of Christian demonology. The changing name never erased the central image: a sovereignty recognized by the swarm.
Later literature and popular culture often magnify one feature while erasing another. The authoritative record must preserve those later transformations without allowing them to replace the earliest surviving identity.
