He is depicted as a phoenix-like bird with the voice of a child, who speaks with a hoarse, raspy tone. Phenex is a Great Marquis of Hell, commanding 20 legions of demons. He is known for his knowledge of arts and sciences (especially poetry, rhetoric, and music), and he teaches these skills to his summoner. He is also said to be obedient to the conjurer and can be persuaded to take a human form. Historically, Phenex is linked to the mythical phoenix, symbolizing rebirth and immortality.
