John Linwood Pitts compiled and translated records from the Guernsey Royal Court to document witchcraft prosecutions in the Channel Islands. The volume preserves accusations of pacts, sabbaths, familiars and malefic acts, together with the coercive legal procedures that produced confessions and executions. Its historical value lies in the documents themselves and the violence embedded within them. The surviving testimony feels less like folklore than an echo from a courtroom where imagination was examined as evidence and terror supplied the verdict.
